Crop haircuts are famous in both women and men. It is a type of haircut that is very close to the head and involves tapering and layering. Initially the hair is cut in shorter length and even cut shorter with the use of clippers, razor or scissors. The tool to be used depends on the variety of crop haircut that the person prefers to wear. Even though this haircut is only intended for men, it still frequently sported by many women. Men who are entering the armed forces usually have their crop haircut during the recruitment training. In the western world, prisoners’ heads are cropped traditionally as a symbol of their restriction to escape and defeat.

The fashionability of crop haircuts began in America and Europe during the 1920s. During this era, the Eton crop is one of the most drastic and shorter cuts for crop. In 1970s and 1980s, crop haircuts became fashionable again and people called it as pixie cut. During these eras, the notable wearer of crop haircut is Jacqueline Pearce, an actress from a British series called “Blake’s 7”.
Crop haircuts have also made it big during the mid 1990s and in 2002, Halle Berry appeared in a James Bond film with crop haircut. In the modern western culture, women commonly wear crop haircuts to signify fresh new beginning and leaving the past behind.
