1950′s Hairstyles
One of the most favorite hairstyles of the 1950s was the ponytail. Still worn also loved by women and girls of all ages, the ponytail is a simple and characteristic style. There is nothing in a ponytail, all you have to do is to collect the hair behind your head and safe it into an elastic or ribbon. In the 1950s, it was quite popular to wrap a chiffon scarf around your ponytail for informal, fun look.
Sideburns were also a huge craze in 1950s hair styles for men. James Dean and Elvis Presley both had sideburns which certainly only popularized them even more. For the cool white males to get this look they would comb the hair on the sides back and grease it, that is how the period greasers came about. The D.A. was created by barber Joe Cirella in 1940, and the hairstyle was made famous when it was worn by film and TV stars like John Travolta in Grease, and Henry Winkler in Happy Days.
